Liriodendron Exhibit: God in Nature – Recent Paintings by John Sauers
Harford County Living Treasure John Sauers will exhibit his new works in a solo show at the Liriodendron from October 12 – December 3.
This highly respected and beloved artist celebrates the natural landscapes of Harford County through his paintings. His unique techniques and point of view have delighted viewers for decades.
Born in 1933 at Holland Hill on the outskirts of Bel Air, John’s family moved to a home near the Liriodendron in 1942 during WWII, and the Liriodendron property became the playground of his youth and, later in life, a favorite place to patronize.
After attending the Maryland Institute of Art, he established a 35-year career as an illustrator for Baltimore Gas and Electric. But when BGE wanted him to transition to digital art, he chose to retire. BGE’s loss was our community’s gain, as John has continued to paint and act as a mentor within the Harford County artistic community.
The Darlington resident has exhibited in galleries across the country and won more than 20 awards. John is a founder of the Liriodendron’s Wednesday Artists Group, and is a former Liriodendron Foundation Board member.
John is also a Harford County historian and is a recipient of the Harford Land Trust Conservation Award.
Opening on Sunday, October 12 from 11 am to 3 pm, the exhibit will be on view each Wednesday through December 3 from 1 to 5 pm, and on Sunday, November 9. Private viewings may also be scheduled by contacting us at 410-879-4424 or info@liriodendron.com.
The Liriodendron mansion’s 2nd floor houses exhibit space featuring artwork, educational exhibits, and archival collections.
Exhibits are open to the public for viewing during the mansion’s Open House hours:
Wednesdays from 1 to 5 pm and Second Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm.
Exhibits are also available for viewing during public-facing events or by appointment.
