Feb 7—Instrument “Petting Zoo” with the SSO
Members of the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra will introduce musical instruments and music-related games and activities to children and their parents to inspire interest in the world of music. Guests will be able to speak with musicians and see instruments like violins, oboes, trumpets, flutes, and more – and in some cases touch, hold, or try them! The musicians will also demonstrate how the instruments sound and how lovely music can be when instruments are played together.
Feb 21—Circus Science
Join professional knucklehead and silly scientist Gregory May on a tour of the scientific principles behind his circus skills. As a former Ringling Brothers Circus performer and Port Discovery Children’s Museum educator, Gregory uses juggling, rolling globe walking, lasso spinning, and other amazing tricks to explore Newton’s Laws, Gyroscopic Motion, and Center of Gravity.
Feb 28–Jazz for People Who Are Shorter Than Me!
Seth Kibel and his fellow musicians will demonstrate what makes jazz musicians tick — improvisation, self-expression, and a whole lotta fun! Familiar melodies will be “jazzed” up with saxophone, flute, clarinet, piano, and more, including selections from Seth’s award-winning childrens’ album “Jazz For People Who Are Shorter Than Me.” Attendees will learn to scat sing, carry a beat, improvise their own melodies, and more! It’ll be so much fun, no one will even realize they’re learning.
