The Historical Society of Harford County is excited to present “400 Years of History: Joppa Exhibit Grand Opening” this February. In 1661, John Taylor received a 300-acre land grant from King Charles II, which later became the town of Joppa, named, as tradition holds, after the biblical city of Jaffa, meaning “beautiful.” Joppa’s story spans centuries and includes its time as Baltimore County’s seat, a thriving port and shipyard, a horse-racing hotspot, and a haven for British spies during the American Revolution.
This exhibit features artifacts and stories that bring Joppa’s past to life and highlight its important role in Harford County history. It’s a great event for anyone who loves local history or wants to learn more about Harford County as we celebrate America250 throughout 2026.
The exhibit opens on February 7 from 1 to 4 pm and is free and open to the public; donations are appreciated. Click here for more information.
