Bel Air’s reputation as the Heart of Harford will be on full display during a special arts getaway weekend! From September 11–13, downtown Bel Air will be filled with festivals, markets, a nostalgic book fair, and something new to discover around every corner of the A&E District.
The Harford Plein Air Festival brings juried artists from across the country to Harford County to capture its farms, waterways, historic communities, and picturesque landscapes. The celebration opens with a reception on Friday, September 11 and continues all weekend with gallery exhibits and artwork sales at the Bel Air Armory.
On Saturday, September 12, plein air painting takes to the streets during the Quick Draw Competition. Artists will have just two hours to capture scenes throughout downtown Bel Air. Watch their paintings take shape, then head to the Armory to see the finished works judged, awarded prizes, and offered for sale. Feeling inspired? Community artists may register to join the fun.
Remember the thrill of the school book fair? Odd Bird Bookshop’s Grown-Up Book Fair brings it all back September 12–13 with books and nostalgic treasures inspired by the fairs of the 1980s and ’90s. No permission slip required!
Shamrock Park becomes a colorful outdoor gallery on Sunday, September 13 when the Bel Air Festival for the Arts returns for its 59th year. Approximately 300 artists, photographers, and craftspeople will offer original artwork and handmade goods, while live music and festival food keep the energy going all day. The event is held rain or shine.
Also on September 13, The Belle Aire Market will fill downtown with artisan goods, vintage pieces, and unexpected finds. Make a day of it with stops at Bel Air’s locally owned shops, restaurants, and cafés.

Step inside the Gallery of Harford Artists for “These Are the Days,” an exhibit featuring a variety of styles and mediums by Harford County artists. You may discover an original piece that sparks a nostalgic memory or becomes an heirloom for future generations.
