Your play’s the thing at the BOOM Playwrights Intensive

Four smiling young adults on a stage raise their right hands to audienceIf you have ever – even for a moment — thought about writing a play, but just didn’t know where to begin, drop everything and sign up for the upcoming BOOM Playwrights Intensive, sponsored by the BOOM Theatre Company.

It’s a rare chance to learn the mechanics of play writing, collaborate with fellow writers and read your play to a live audience at the May 2014 Brave New Works Theatre Festival. What’s more, the workshop is free and takes place at Bel Air’s newest eatery, the Vagabond Sandwich Company, 111 Thomas Street.

Writers of all experience levels will get the tools and inspiration to create a new play from scratch. The group meets twice per month to update and discuss progress and workshop new material. Guest contributors will provide feedback, give practical advice and challenge participants to develop their own unique form of storytelling.

This intensive is absolutely free-of-charge to all participants. Participants commit to holding a reading of their new play in May 2014, as part of the Brave New Works Theatre Festival. BOOM may publish the final draft in an upcoming edition of The BOOM Anthology of New Plays. This publication provides support for additional programs to encourage local writers.

Laura Fox, associate professor at Harford Community College, will lead the six-session program. To register, or to ask questions, e-mail Laura Fox: lfox@harford.edu.
